Dibakar Banerjee's LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA is one of the rare successes of the year. The director is delighted with the way the film has been accepted, not only by the audience but also the critics, although he is frank enough to admit that he never really designs his films for the critics or the audience, but makes them as he wants to.

Experimentation for the heck of it doesn’t always work. I ended up watching this due to Dibankar’s earlier works KKG and OLLO, but LSD was an exercise in futility and waste of time and had nothing to offer to an avg moviegoer like me. I dont like pretentious work in the name of bold cinema. Reviews for this were raving about storytelling and different narrative style blah blah...

The only reason this is being called a success is due to very small price tag of the movie , but how is an audience concerned with that aspect as we go to cinemas just to watch a decent movie. There are a lot of KKG and OLLO fans who I know , but they were all disappointed with LSD.

I think there are very few big budget films that are not made for purely commercial reasons. Maybe Avatar was an exercise in experimentation, had no big names, and all money was well spent on technical sophistication. But people gave the film a HUGE thumbs up! Small films are sometimes also made that way in desperation - that is all the makers could afford to do! I put 90% Abhay Deol films in that class, he is all they can afford, not what they want. Dibakar is a unique case, as he has made KKG and OLLO successful and then he made LSD with no names, went even smaller - not for want of money I guess, but because he wanted it that way. So I agree with his statement, but only as it relates to his film.
