Atithi ‘stays’ at the box office

Ajay Devgn has reason to celebrate. His latest slice of life comedy, Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? has struck the right chord with viewers across the globe.

The film that has received critical acclaim and the encouraging opening numbers are very welcoming for this atithi (guest).

Says trade analyst Taran Adarsh, “The film opened to above average numbers in some places and good ones in other centres. However, what is truly in its favour is the fact that it carries a very good word of mouth. Atithi is a comedy with a good social message. Such films invariably become a family favourite.”

While Warner Bros (India) is also very excited about the positive response to Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?, a film that they made in collaboration with Wide Frame Films, Ajay is elated because his faith in this genre of cinema stands reiterated.

The actor feels, “Indians enjoy love stories, comedies and social dramas with an equal amount of passion. A film that fits into one of these genres or even has the right mix of comedy with a message, usually takes the viewer along for a nice happy ride.’’
The actor is also happy that after a slightly bumpy start at the ticket windows in 2010, Bollywood is slowly finding its feet. A trade source says, “Atithi may go on to being one of the earliest genuine hits of the year.’’ On hearing that, the two-times National Award winning actor, Ajay says, “If a film has its heart in the right place, good performances (Konkona Sensharma, Paresh Rawal, Ajay) and gloss, it will find patronage.’’
