2012 does what Drona couldn't

NEW DELHI -- Roland Emmerich's disaster epic “2012” raked in the second-highest weekend opening for any Hollywood film in India collecting $4.16 million (191.5 million rupees), a whisker away from the 191.7 million rupees clocked by the highest opening for any Hollywood film, 2007's “Spiderman 3” according to figures from Sony Pictures Releasing India.

“2012”'s opening is commendable when compared to latest Bollywood hit “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani” ("The Strange and Amazing Story of Love") which collected $5.2 million, according to its banner Tips Films when the film opened November 6, scoring the fourth-highest opening for an Indian film ever.

So, one thing can be said for sure, sci fi genre is big in India, its just LS 2050, Drona, were really bad movies. Even 2012 and Spiderman were pretty bad ones, but even they had takers in India. So it gives good hopes for SRK's RA1

It is good news for the well made Sci-Fi fantasy. But when will we see such a film? Other issue is that such a film made in India will be very expensive and will have to collect most of the income from India itself. So it would have to top Ghajini and Rab ne and NOT just Ajab. Could be very hard to do.

Drona and LS2050 were really pathetic film and promos showed it clearly . that is one of the major reasons it didnt succeed . second the starts here are not major stars and India is quite dependent on them for BW films . thus u see a poor Krrish working mainly on that factor .

English films particularly those which look good visually have always worked in India . and dubbed version of this films is huge huge market . HW also are more advance here . they r ready to dub their films in all languages Gujarati , bhijpuri , tamil , telugu to just make their films reach larger population but such efforts in BW have been very less ( only remember Krrish and Dhoom2 )
