2012: If this is how the world will end, its pretty bad-ass

Whats that with humans and our fascination with the end of world? Sometimes it looks to me as if before we learned how to live, we started dreaming about how we will die. What else explains the chapters of Armageddon in every religious book ever written? Call it judgment day, armageddon or whatvere, second coming of Jesus, 10th incarnation of Vishnu, or one giant cat kicking the earth like a ball of wool There are many theories. so pick whatever you want. And then there is a Mayan theory as well. The one which says that everything will end on 12-21-2012, the basics of Roland Emmerich's yet another attempt to kill all of us.

If you think you have seen world being destroyed, you have no idea what 2012 has in store for you. Emmerich first imported aliens to destroy us in independence day, then he had us made Godzilla and made him/her run berserk in NY, then came cold waves of Day after tomorrow, which nearly froze all of us, and now, with 2012 he has proven that world can not be destroyed any better. I guess he was sick and tired or saving us at the last moments, so he must have thought, what the heck, lets wipe off the slate and start afresh.
Cities can be burnt, shatterd, destroyed, but he sunk them. You can kill people in hordes, dozens, 100s, thousands, he killed in billions. You can wipe of a city, he re arranged the map of the globe. But then question is how was the movie? LOOOONG so long that everything positive becomes negative.I cheered for Cali getting whacked, even Miami was ok, but then DC, Hawaii, it just never stopped, and by then end i was like, OMFG, is it 2012 already?

Performance wise, there is no hero in the movie, its all special effects, dialogues are cheesy, and the worst performance award ever should go to Danny Glover, what a wimp President he appeared on screen. John cusak did well in his role, Amanda Peet was effective, Chiwetel Ejiofor tried, until he had to give a speech, and rest were just there. All in all, its a mother of all destruction movie, you can not top this one, even Jesus will have a tough time to compete this one. But its collections are mind numbingly good, and why not, you don;t see such effects evry day, with some 15 companies all over the globe employed more than 1000 people to come up with 2012, every scene is a master stroke,no doubts, but then too many master strokes and real sloppy script did no good.

if only it had been less melodramatic, and 30 minutes shorter, it could have been one of the better movies. sadly, director loved his work far too much, and therein lied the problem.

Rating: 2/5

watch it if you are into special effects, but not on IMax, as it can give you headache :D

ROFL! Love your reviews. Maybe Emmerich is GOD? Waiting to see how we would all like to die?

I would have preferred 100 Things I Learned from 2012. And yes, I'm commenting solely to prove I read your review. :P
