Jaane Kahan se aayi hai - Nikhat Kazmi review 3.5 stars!!

Film: Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai
Cast: Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandes, Ruslaan Mumtaz, Sonal Sehgal, Vishal Malhotra
Genre: Romance
Direction: Milap Zaveri
Duration: 2 hours 8 minutes
Critic's Rating: 3.5 stars

Story : Born loser, Riteish Deshmukh has a major problem. Girls tend to look away when he's around. So much so, he wonders if he'll ever find love. His troubles are compounded when he falls in love with Tara (Jacqueline Fernandes), an alien from Venus. Why would she be attracted to a mere clapper boy like him, when there's superstar Desh (Ruslaan Mumtaz) around?

Movie Review: It's light, breezy, buoyant and actually funny, now and then. More importantly, Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai makes up where Aladin flopped: it showcases some cosy chemistry between Gujju goner, Riteish Deshmukh and alien beauty, Jacqueline Fernandes who serenade each other with smiles, giggles, snuggles and a lot of silly banter. And if that's not enough, there's the boyz bandobast too: the funky friendship between loser number one, Riteish and loser number two, Vishal (he's on fire), the friend with the yen for the pink pussycat!

Riteish, who leads a protected life with his Gujju parents, the delightful Satish Shah and Supriya Pilgaonkar, loses his heart to Sonal Sehgal, the assistant film director who works on the same sets as him. But Sonal sadly looks at him as a mere friend. Truly, it's a typical Sad Sack story for our slack hero, until the super hot Venutian, Tara, literally falls from from the sky. She's come looking for love on a two nights-three days touristy trip to terra firma. Naturally, it's our gallant good-for-nothing, Riteish and his equally unlucky friend, Vishal who end up as her tourist guides, as she tries to find true love with superstar, Desh (Ruslaan Mumtaz) who relentlessly throws cheesy pick-up lines at her.

REDIFF REVIEW -

Sukanya Verma 2/5

In two days, a girl from Venus descends on Earth in a sad-looking spaceship to study love. But isn't Venus supposed to be the planet of all things romance, you ask? Milap Zaveri's Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai, however, doesn't feel the need to explain the irony.

Feel free to draw your own sub-text. Like maybe things got way too mechanical up there? Or perhaps they felt a need to introduce a science-of-love program along the lines of Yoga? Yeah, let your imagination travel to obnoxious extremes. This is a fantasy, after all.

And so in two days, this smiley-faced alien (Jacqueline Fernandez) displays a month's wardrobe, learns to speak Hindi, quote Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge [ Images ], make the country's leading superstar (Ruslaan Mumtaz [ Images ], looks too rookie to pass off for a megastar but lends warmth in his Prince Charming skin) and his assistant director (Riteish Deshmukh) to fall in love with her, enjoy strip-porn videos and attend two high-profile New Year parties.

What's funny though how our contrived story-telling doesn't even spare an extraterrestrial? At the end of the day, the hero's idea of a perfect date has to be trips to places of worship and the skimpily-clad Venusian will somehow find a way to fit into the Bhartiya naari prototype. And so from skimpy silver boy shorts to shiny silk kanjeevarams it is.

The only way you can mildly amuse yourself with this sham is a) Do not ask questions. b) Do not think. c) Ignore the stereotypes (a loud Gujju middle-aged couple, gay jokes).

Considering, the film is set against the backdrop of the Hindi film industry; Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai had a lot of opportunity to work some gags and comical situations around the topsy-turvy world of show-business.

It does exploit this potential in the beginning with Akshay Kumar's [ Images ] cameo or when Riteish employs his talking-the-camera technique to narrate the bumbling episodes of his life as filmmaker Farah Khan's [ Images ] incognito assistant.

Taran Adarsh - 2.5/5

Love stories seem to be the fav genre of dream merchants here. I've a hunch, if we ever do a count of romantic films made in Bollywood, it would easily score over other genres. The question is, how innovative can a love story get in today's times? Milap Zaveri provides the answer: Man from Earth, woman from Venus.

Having penned some likable comic capers in the past [MASTI, HEYY BABYY], Milap's directorial debut JAANE KAHAN SE AAYI HAI has liberal doses of light moments dominating the first half of the film and heartache and reunion following soon after, in its post-interval portions.

JAANE KAHAN SE AAYI HAI works for its light moments mainly. It's bizarre to think of a love story between a human and an alien, but Milap garnishes it well with assorted characters, sets the story in the film industry and has several laugh-inducing moments. Resultantly, the first half is paisa vasool in filmi lingo.

But the problem arises when the focus shifts to the prem kahani in its second half. For, the story follows the trodden path [it becomes a love triangle] and embarks on the same old route that all love stories usually embark upon. If Milap had the courage to think out of the box, he should've ensured that the film remained true to its essence. Why didn't he think of an equally wacky second hour?

Notwithstanding its predictable second half, JAANE KAHAN SE AAYI HAI is a decent watch that provides ample laughs.

JAANE KAHAN SE AAYI HAI is the story of Rajesh [Riteish Deshmukh], a simple Gujarati boy who's been looking for love since he was a baby. Thoroughly unsuccessful in his endeavours, he nearly gives up till he meets Natasha [Sonal Sehgal].

Desh [Ruslaan Mumtaz] is the youngest superstar in the country. Mothers want to adopt him and their daughters want to marry him. But when will he find the girl of his dreams? Their worlds turn upside down when Tara [Jacqueline Fernandez], an alien from Venus, lands on Earth in the search of true love.
