Did "The Maestro" Ilaiyaraja come full circle ?

There is no doubt that Ilaiyaraja is ONE of the best music composer in India. His work in south Indian Cinema is remarkable. He has composed from late 1970's to date.

"Jaane Do Na" song in Cheeni Kum is actually a copy of his earlier song "Jotheyali" from Kannada movie Geetha .

"Jotheyali" is one of the evergreen hits of Kannada movies. It is sung by SPB and S. Janaki.

Shreya sang "Jaane Do Naa" for Cheeni Kum, The only difference is that Jaana Do Naa is a solo.

I guess the Maestro liked his "Jotheyali" composition so much, he repeated it in Tamil also before doing so for Cheeni Kum. Here is a medley of all the 3 versions performed by members of JIGARY BAND in Bay Area, It is a real fun. Enjoy !
(The Medley starts with Hindi followed by Tamil & Kannada version)

Thanks for the piece Illusionist! While I cannot claim to recognize similarities in tune as I am slightly tone deaf, the final medley makes it clear. But with such a beautiful tune - why not use it over and over again? I wish some of our hack copiers of music in Hindi cinema would simply attempt to recycle some old tunes in a meaningful way.

You are welcome Pardesi. The Maestro has composed so many gems in South Indian Cinema that it needs a separate post(at least to list a few).
