3 Idiots: The story so far

Raju Hirani and vidhu Vinod Chopra, in a short space of time and just 2 Munnabhai movies, formed a pair which is believed to be as critically acclaimed as commercially successful. Their 3rd venture together was supposed to be 3rd movie in the Munnabhai series, Munnabhai chale Amrika

But then Sanjay's court cases opened up again and he had to start frequenting the Indian jails. At that point of time it was decided that Munnabhai will have to wait for a little longer, and in the mean time Raju and VVC will move on to some other project. Soon acclaimed Indian writer, Chetan Bhagat's 5 point someone was picked as a source for their next. And this time, VVC got what he has always been trying for, SRK's nod to star in the flick. After 1942 a love story, Munnabhai MBBS, Eklavya, and god kow how many more where VVC tried to cast SRK, he finally managed to do that. But I guess the project was jinxed or something. Just as India's Oscar entry was made public and Eklavya was given a nod by Indian government, some real stupid fight started among Sajid Khan, farah Khan and VVC. brother-sister combo when supported CDI and Dharam for the India's official entry to Oscars, VVC retorted while saying that his is atleast better than Paheli (which even I hated TBH). Out of nowhere SRK was also involved into all this mess, without him saying a word, and he had no other option but to get out of the project citing personal reasons. At this point of time Raju and VVC again went out to hunt for the star who will grace their movie, and thats how Aamir came into picture.


With posters, first look trailers and songs out, 3I is a looking like an outright winner. Some might have concerns for its trailers which somehow bordered crudeness, but for me thats a perfect way to woo the urban youth. They are all comfortable with butt scratching and toilet humor, spl when its coming from Aamir. 2 things which trailers make it clear to even blind eye are, a) It will be focused on the plight of youngsters dying to get admission in professional colleges, and b) It will have Aamir all over. Both things will greatly benefit the movie's BO potential. Ghajini has already proven the might of Aamir as a BO star, and the subject definitely touches a chord with middle class students and their parents. This is one subject which they will definitely like to watch out for. And with Raju at the helm, you can always expect a clean humor which help families to go in and enjoy the movie.

Supported by a super cast of Sharman Joshi and Madhavan, 3 I is hitting all the right notes in media circles and audience base alike. Message or no message, it will be fun to see a movie which has been talk of the Btown for 2 years now for all good and bad reasons.
